I was awoken this morning my bright flashing lights and loud bangs and only realised it was a lightning storm after a few moments. My wife and I have booked a 40th birthday storm chasing holiday in the US next year so you can see my excitement. It seemed to take me ages to get ready but I was faffing trying to put my boots on – didn’t bother with clothes – went out in my pj’s LOL. I rushed out with my DSLR, tripod and remote release – Set the camera to about 20mm, bulb mode and messed around with the ISO – 500 seemed about right and shot away.
The strikes were about every 10 seconds with a perpetual rolling thunder towards Exeter way. Amazing – the forks were so vivid lighting up the sky a blue/purple colour. This went on for 20 mins so I decided to try to capture some on Dartmoor but the top of Haytor was cloud bound so dropped down to Haytor Down but the lightning diminished but managed to get a shot off before it also poured it down 🙂
ITV Westcountry News, BBC website and the Mirror.co.uk have used it which is nice – http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/you-woken-up-last-night-4285938
